Our winery with 10 acres (4 ha) of vineyards is situated close to the shores of Lake Neusiedl in the heart of the "Neusiedler See - Seewinkel" national park. At an elevation of 117m above sea level, the village of Illmitz is Austria's lowest wine producing community.
Close pruning, thinning out, specific vine training, integrated pest control as well as the optimum timing of the harvest in conjunction with the light sandy soil and the atmospheric humidity due to Lake Neusiedl result in the best conditions for the production of high quality wines.
Our flagship product is the "Schilfwein" (literally "reed wine"). Only carefully selected, healthy and fully mature grapes are stored and slowly air-dried on a bed of reeds. The water content of the grapes will be drastically reduced as sugar and flavour concentration will increase. After a drying process of at least three months, the raisin-like grapes will be pressed slowly and carefully. The resulting wines are sweet to very sweet and capable of a long life.
Our wines, produced since 1990, have regularly received praise at national and international wine tastings.
We export to Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Switzerland.
